Dharamshala | First Class
Perched serenely on a Dharamshala hillside, near to the Dalai Lama’s residence, Chonor House is a memorable property showcasing Tibet’s culture and history.
Chonor House encompasses many styles and motifs from Tibetan culture. The decor is warm and welcoming, with carved wood, low ceilings and splashes of rich colour.
The suites are beautifully decorated with hand-painted murals and Tibetan artwork, each on a different theme ranging from sea voyages to mythical creatures. In some rooms, dragons swim across rugs on the floor, while in others flowering trees blossom from headboards.
Private balconies overlook the trees and hillside below, and bright en-suites complete the space.
The hotel’s parent organisation, the Norbulingka Institute, is dedicated to preserving and displaying Tibetan arts, crafts and culture. As well as looking around the institute’s galleries, and watching artists at work, guests can take part in workshops on woodcarving, thangka and wood painting.
Enjoy exploring the temples and landscape of the local area, and return to the hotel to catch a few peaceful moments in the grounds, or in a quiet lounge, before tucking into hearty multi-cuisine meals at the cafe.
A welcoming boutique, dedicated to Tibetan art and culture, with a peaceful ambiance and bags of character.
