Hotel Tugu Bali
Canggu | Deluxe
A 30 minute drive north of Seminyak, yet a world away in terms of ambiance, the fishing village of Canggu and its laid-back surf beach is where you’ll find the atmospheric Hotel Tugu Bali.
As much a boutique museum as a hotel, this family owned property is brimming with Indonesian objects d’art and cultural relics. Every inch of the property oozes a sense of place: from the traditional style rooms furnished with exotic antiques; to the ancient Javanese spa treatments on offer and the authentic Indonesian feasts served up for dinner.
Concealed behind ornate carved doors, amidst the tropical gardens and lotus ponds, the suites are individually decorated with meticulous attention to detail. Expect deep rich colourings, wooden four-poster beds, sunken bath tubs and carefully chosen Indonesian antiquities. Most suites feature a private spa area; others benefit from a plunge pool.
When not lounging beside the palm-fringed pool or pampering at the spa (try all six spa pavilions), learn about the ancient art of traditional Javanese medicine, or enjoy a hands-on cooking class under the watchful eye of the Indonesian chef. Veritable feasts are served up in Tugu’s two main restaurants – the 12-course Grand Rjsttafel is not to be missed - and private dining opportunities are plentiful with numerous tucked-away, romantic spots to be found throughout the property. Alternatively, an easy stroll along the beach will lead you to a handful of low-key bars and restaurants.
We SayIt’s worth noting that a small pedestrian road and grass area separate the hotel from Canggu beach, but this in no way detracts from the Tugu’s appeal.
