The Last House

Tangalle | Deluxe

This five-bedroomed, seaside retreat oozes style and serenity. Its open-plan design cleverly merges the in and outdoor space – ventilation provided by the gentle sea breeze: its colourful exterior calls to mind a Mediterranean hacienda. No surprise to learn that it was designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa.

Décor throughout is a stylish combination of whitewashed walls and splashes of vibrant colours; antique furniture and original shutters alongside plump colourful sofas and modern amenities. Each of the guest rooms is slightly unique in style and décor, but all enjoy high ceilings and plenty of natural light. Within the Main House, on the upper floor is the Cinnamon Hill Suite as well as two twin bedrooms, each of which can be booked individually or as a 2/3 bedroom family friendly option. Three additional double rooms are set within the grounds, slightly separate from the Main House.

Days are spent relaxing by the courtyard swimming pool, enjoying a leisurely game of croquet on the lawn or venturing onto the nearby (virtually deserted) beach for swimming, snorkelling or boogie-boarding. Exploring further afield will take you to the fishing town of Tangalle with its bustling market or the remarkable Mulkirigala Cave temple and monastery.

Delicious meals are served in an open-air dining area overlooking the gardens and pool. As you would expect from its location, fresh seafood features heavily on the menu, as do hearty homemade Sri Lankan curries. Please note that no alcohol is served at this hotel. However, you are welcome to take in your own alcoholic drinks.
