The Kandy House

Kandy | Deluxe

Set in five acres of lush gardens and just 20 minutes northeast of Kandy, a stay at The Kandy House proves it is possible to have your cake and eat it.

A fusion of Colonial style architecture and 21st-century ambiance and comfort, the house was formerly the private residence of a chief minister of Kandy until it was transformed into a boutique hotel. Designed by Geoffrey Bawa’s protégé, Channa Daswatte, in 2006, the result is exquisite, with the original building's heritage and former grandeur evident at every turn.

Under a particularly quirky - in its day opulent - roof, the eight individual guestrooms are split over two floors and set around a central courtyard. Room sizes differ, although all are generous and most have both a bath and shower. Each has its own wide array of original features, beautifully complimented with luxurious fabrics and furnishings.

To the rear of the house there is a terraced seating area leading onto gardens and a secluded, paddy field-shaped infinity pool with mesmerising views across the valley beyond.

To preserve the tranquility of the property, Kandy House does not accept guests under the age of 12.

We Say
Whilst each room undoubtedly has its selling points, we love the Pioneer Room - it might not have a bath, but the private garden more than makes up for it!
