Rainforest Edge

Near Sinharaja | Other

Set atop a mountain, with lush tropical surroundings, Rainforest Edge is so called because it's only ten minutes from Sinharaja, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage site (not to mention being one of Sri Lanka's many National Parks). Sinharaja's 34 sq miles of virgin lowland rainforest are home to hundreds of endemic Sri Lankan species.

The lodge is brilliantly located for excursions into the nearby jungle, and offers excellent environments for kayaking, mountain-biking and guided nature-treks. Rainforest Edge mainly employs locals from the nearby village, and works with local resources wherever possible and appropriate. Accommodation is beautifully presented, with natural materials used throughout; whitewashed walls decorated with traditional artifacts and reclaimed wood, bedframes made of polished logs, and traditional fabrics adding extra colour.

The open air restaurant serves a fully organic range of traditional Sri Lankan dishes, using fruit and vegetables grown on the premises. Snacks, tropical fruits and refreshments can be found in the Ambalama lounge area.
