Ekho Safari Hotel
Near Yala National Park | Superior
The Ekho Safari sits quietly on the banks of the ancient Tissa Wewa tank, built by King Devanampiya Tissa between 250-210 BC.
Nearby, Yala NP is home to what's believed to be the world's densest leopard population, with more than one leopard per square mile, along with elephants, crocodiles, and hundreds of smaller species including macaques, civets and the Sri Lankan fishing cat. There are dozens of bird species here too, many of them endemic, and sea turtles inhabit the park's coastal stretch.
Back at the Ekho Safari, you can expect sleek but comfortable interiors, accommodation decorated in yellows, whites and blacks, with clean lines and natural materials creating a modern Sri Lankan style. This is a wonderful spot for nature lovers - apart from Yala, bird flock around the hotel and in the island opposite the restaurant, which overlooks the lake and offers both indoor and outdoor dining. The pleasant pool features a deck area that overhangs the lake itself - lovely for waterside relaxation in the sunshine.
We SayThe lakeside pool is always a welcome distraction after a morning spotting for leopard and other wildlife at Yala.
