Bungalows by Jetwing

Hatton | First Class

Set deep in the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country, Jetwing’s three converted colonial period planter’s bungalows ooze nostalgia, heritage and colonial character. What better way to immerse yourself in the tea region than staying in a former tea planter’s residence?

Built in the early 1900’s by the Scottish Ceylon Tea Company, interior décor befits the style of that era. Polished timber flooring and classic reproduction furnishings are a feature throughout; many of the bedrooms are decorated with four-poster beds and claw-foot free standing bathtubs are a feature in some of the bathrooms. Strathdon and Dickoya Bungalows each have four bedrooms; Craig Appin has five. Each bungalow comprises of a spacious living room complete with fireplace and plush sofas; a cosy TV lounge and a dining room where home-cooked meals are served - expect hearty English breakfasts and traditional High Tea with fresh plantation tea (of course!) Incidentally, the properties do not have an alcohol licence and operate on a ‘BYO’ basis, so you are welcome to take in your own alcoholic drinks.

When you’re not strolling through the bungalow gardens and soaking up the views with a cuppa on the terrace, there is plenty of opportunity to explore the scenic surrounds by mountain bike or along one of the many walking trails. A visit to a nearby tea factory is a ‘must-do’.

We Say
Whilst the decor & furnishings won't make the pages of a glossy interior mag, the bungalow's hospitable staff and enviable location are reason to stay.
