Suminoe Ryokan
Setoda | Ryokan
Formerly the home of a wealthy merchant, this century-old wooden ryokan sits right by the sea on Ikuchi Island, offering tranquil views and a traditional welcome.
The guest rooms are all Japanese style, which means you’ll be sleeping on a futon laid on a tatami mat floor — make sure you inhale the lovely fresh scent of tatami before you fall asleep! Some of the rooms overlook the property’s pleasant garden, while others have a clear view of the Seto Inland Sea. All rooms are equipped with a private toilet.
Guests dine on a multi-course meal prepared from freshly caught local seafood and seasonal produce. This expertly home-cooked style is a traditional aspect of a ryokan stay.
The property’s onsen (hot spring bath) is modest in size but offers the quintessentially Japanese way to relax and soothe those tired muscles after a day of cycling the Shimanami Kaido or simply exploring the island.
