Ryokan Asadaya

Kanazawa | Ryokan

Established in the late 1860’s and constructed in the style of a tea ceremony house, Ryokan Asadaya offers a genuinely authentic Japanese inn experience and feels more like stepping into a private home.

The traditional ryokan atmosphere has been preserved with antique furnishings and delicate paintings decorating the property. Tatami flooring, shoji doors and low level seating furnish the five simple guest rooms, which also feature a small terrace. In addition, each room uniquely enjoys a ‘tsubo niwa’, essentially a small ornamental inner garden, designed to be a point of natural beauty within the room. Bathrooms are on the compact size but, in true ryokan fashion, there is a shared hot pool that can be booked privately.

As can be expected in a traditional ryokan, the dining experience focuses on regional cuisine, with ingredients sourced from seasonal local produce. Leisurely multi-course dinners are served in room: with as much importance placed on the Kanazawa lacquerware on which meals are served as the food itself.

We Say
Make an early morning visit to Omicho Market – just across the road from Asadaya. Known as Kanazawa’s Kitchen, Omicho is the city’s largest fresh food market. It’s also a great spot for a local lunch.
