Tsumago | Ryokan
In a quiet setting, just a stroll away from central Tsumago, Daikichi is conveniently located for exploring the old Nakasendo Way.
This traditional Japanese inn dates back to feudal times, and in typical minshuku style comprises of just five small, simply furnished rooms with tatami mats and futon bedding, each of which enjoys views over the nearby wooded valley. As with most traditional accommodation, bathroom and toilet facilities are shared with other guests.
After trekking the 8km from Magome along the old Nakasendo Way, the Daikichi’s shared hot bath is perfect for soothing any aching muscles (which, for the shy, can be booked privately). Having worked up an appetite, the beautifully presented evening feast of local specialities is also well received and is a time to swap travel tips with fellow guests as dinner is a communal affair.
We SayBeing on the compact side, there isn't much space in the rooms for a large suitcase. We suggest travelling with an overnight bag and using Japan’s efficient luggage forwarding service to send on your main baggage.
