Bangkok Tree House

Bangkok | Other

Something of a departure from Bangkok’s usual accommodation, the Tree House is an eco-friendly concept design marvel - a cluster of exclusive “nests” at the river’s edge, each having its own distinctive quirks and all built from reclaimed wood and local bamboo.

Insulated with fruit juice cartons, lit by solar/wind powered LEDs, with green utilities that range from solar cookers to harvested rainwater, the Tree House’s eco credentials are superlative - it grows much of its own (organic) food, locally sourcing the rest, and runs a diligent river clean-up project to remove any rubbish and litter that floats downstream from nearby Bangkok city centre.

Guests dine at Reflect, the roof-top restaurant overlooking the river, which serves organic ingredients combined in both Thai and International recipes, all vegetarian or vegan. There is a pond in which you can swim, but it’s unchlorinated and populate with plants and insects.

This hotel is not for everyone - it’s no good if you have toddlers or can’t do stairs/heights/creepy crawlies. All the showers are outdoors, and guests must reach the property on foot or by boat. But it is most certainly a memorable experience, whether you’re a hotel connoisseur, a green travel advocate, or newlyweds looking for unique honeymoon memories.

Accommodation is diverse, from the elegant wooden interior of the two-person “Tree Top Nest” to the open air, sleep-beneath-the-stars bamboo platform “View With A Room”, but all accommodation is very stylish indeed, despite its eccentric nature. Expect some surprises, for sure - but that’s all part of the fun.

We Say
