Cam Ranh | Deluxe
The Anam (not to be confused with the Aman resort brand) is the first deluxe property to open on Cam Ranh’s northern peninsula and has bagged an enviable oceanfront spot on the 300-metre, white-sand Long Beach, shaded by palm trees.
Whilst many new resorts are showcasing sleek, minimalist designs (we’re not great fans of the glass-wall bathroom trend!), The Anam has been designed to evoke the spirit of Vietnam’s Indochine era and oozes elegance. Expect handmade lanterns, mosaic tiling and over-sized ceramic vases, complemented by attentive, yet unobtrusive service levels and a pervading sense of tranquility. It’s a world away from nearby Nha Trang with its high-rise buildings and lively nightlife.
Accommodation is spread throughout the 12-hectare grounds. Spacious rooms are set in a five floor building towards the rear of the resort and offer views over the manicured lawns or towards the sea from good sized balconies. In addition, individual one-bedroom villas are dotted throughout the tropical gardens: choose from a garden view, a location just steps from the pool or close to the beach. A selection of the villas also feature a private pool.
With such a beautiful beach on your doorstep and three swimming pools, it’s tempting (and perfectly acceptable) to spend lazy days relaxing with a book, interspersed with the ocassional dip and a leisurely lunch. For those who feel the need to be active, there are a variety of watersports available, a tennis court, regular yoga sessions and a golf course nearby. Younger guests are kept entertained at the Kids Club. Worthy of a mention is the resort’s 60-seater cinema – the first of its kind in Vietnam – that shows a kids movie every afternoon (giving parents ample time to swan off to the Balinese spa!) and a classic film in the evening.
Dining choices range from European-style fine dining to extensive buffet feasts at The Indochine, and a more casual menu at The Beach Club. What we particularly like is the weekly ‘Mamma’s Cooking’ evening when five mothers of the staff are invited into the hotel kitchens to rustle up their favourite dish for appreciative guests.
