Komodo National Park | First Class
Indonesia’s Mecca for divers, the Komodo Resort mixes charming accommodation with world class diving, and offers expert supervision for the more challenging dives around the islands of Komodo and Flores. Marine life here is thriving and spectacular, and the resort’s day cruises and liveaboards are a superb way for experienced divers to access it.
For those who’d rather stick to snorkelling, there are beautiful coral gardens and reefs full of swooping manta rays, with all snorkelling trips accompanied by boat. The resort also allows immediate access to Komodo National Park, with its impressive population of Komodo dragons.
Located on a tiny island about 6 miles off the coast of Komodo, the resort’s land-based accommodation consists of individual teak bungalows a few metres from the beach, with polished wooden floors, timber-framed walls, and pretty four-posters festooned with nets. All bungalows have a private terrace facing the sea, and the en-suite bathrooms are well-equipped with contemporary fixtures and fittings. A number of traditional local boats are used for diving safaris - on board, guests sleep in shared cabins or on mattresses on deck, but for diving cruises there are gorgeous schooners with air-conditioned wood-lined cabins.
All meals are provided on the boats, and the resort’s restaurant serves both classic Indonesian and traditional Italian dishes, mostly prepared from local veg and fish. The bar is small but boasts wonderful views, and is an ideal spot to unwind after a thrilling day underwater or venturing into Dragon territory. The islands are also surrounded by pristine sandy beaches on which to relax and rest.
