Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp
Chiang Saen | Family
Recently refurbished and upgraded, the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp is set in huge grounds on the banks of the Rauk River, and in the most remote of lush jungle locations – even though you're just an hour out of Chiang Rai, you could be on another planet.
The views here are spectacular - panoramic vistas from your private terrace, looking out over the Golden Triangle's emerald valleys and into neighbouring Laos and Myanmar. Accommodation balances true luxury with a sense of adventure and outdoor living.
The finish throughout is distinctly Thai, with huge picture windows and stylish interiors lined with polished teak and light Thai silks. Antique style furniture reflects the country's heritage, while a raft of modern luxuries are discreetly included to keep you relaxed and comfortable.
Facilities are exceptional given the resort's location, with a choice of two excellent restaurants - one classic Thai, the other European - along with the Opium Terrace, where you can also enjoy tasty club-style meals, and bespoke private dining for romantic moments.
The ample spa offers ritual relaxation treatments and boasts private steam rooms and soaking tubs, and of course there's the elephant camp, where you will meet the elephants, their calfs, and the mahouts who care for them. Walking through the surrounding jungle with the elephants is an excellent, peaceful way to observe the local wildlife without disturbing it, and guests also get to see the elephants play in the region's refreshing rivers and pools.
The subject of wildlife projects and sanctuaries is an emotive issue – and rightly so. For our policy on such projects and how we ensure your wildlife experience will be ethical and responsible click here.
The elephant camp is one of the best we have ever visited, a real highlight of any stay in the north of Thailand.
