Sam Neua Hotel
Sam Neua | Standard
Behind its ornate frontage, the Sam Neua Hotel ensures comfortable, standard class accommodation in the remote Hua Phan region of Laos. Located in the centre of town, this locally run hotel with friendly staff makes an inviting base to return to after a day’s sightseeing.
Solid wooden furniture with carved detailing features strongly throughout the hotel, from the sturdy beds and panelling in the guest rooms to the elaborate armchairs and coffee tables in the lounge area, adding just the hint of French-Colonial style. The modestly sized guest rooms are clean and cosy and make the most of the space.
The light from the French windows is enhanced by the white walls and pale woods, creating a bright and airy feel, and the balconies beyond frame an interesting view across rooftops towards the Nam Xam river. Touches of the locally-woven Laotian textiles bring in an element of tradition. Compact, wet-room style ensuites are convenient and practical.
The facilities are relatively basic, but the hotel is certainly at the fore in a region only recently opened up to tourism. Breakfast is served at a welcoming cafe just across the nearby bridge, from where you can sit and watch the early comings and goings in this sleepy town, before heading off to explore. Visit the market to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a bowlful of steaming noodles, or hike into the mountains in search of serenity, before heading back to the welcoming glow of the hotel.
