Asia's sleeping beauty
Surrounded by lush forest vegetation, the guesthouses peep out between the leaves, their natural building materials blending in sympathetically with their surroundings. The woven walls and simple furnishings give the guest rooms a rustic appeal somewhere between a forest lodge and high-end glamping, and each has several windows that let in plenty of light. Ensuite facilities, which include a private shower in each room, are basic and practical.
The use of natural and local materials continues in the simple cotton bedspreads and curtains, as well as the artisan crafts which are displayed throughout. The expectations of modern life are catered for with the provision of WiFi, and the hotel has several eco features including solar-heated water.
A selection of traditional, home-cooked Laotian dishes, and a few western favourites, are served in the delightful riverside restaurant. The open walls allow for semi open-air dining, letting in the breeze and the gentle sounds of the riverside to accompany you as you enjoy your meal.
There are many picturesque sights only a short trek away, such as the Nam Dee waterfall, or you can simply wander along the riverbank and see where it takes you, before returning to your cosy lodgings to sit on the terrace and indulge in a little stargazing.
