Sunrise balloon trip over Jaipur
Rising high over Jaipur in a hot air balloon at sunrise gives you a breathtaking, fresh perspective on this magnificent city. Guided by the direction of the wind, you’ll float peacefully above it all, gliding past gnarled forts, majestic palaces and rural villages. As the day’s first rays fill the landscape with a rich, amber glow, you’ll have a clear view for miles towards distant rolling hills and plains where tigers roam...
What to expect on your balloon safari...
Just before dawn, when the skies are still dark, you’ll be met at your hotel by the balloon flight team and driven to that day’s location. The take-off spot depends on weather conditions and wind direction, so you’ll have to wait until the day to discover exactly where your journey will begin.
Upon arrival, the crew will double check that conditions are right for flight, and you’ll see the huge balloons laying ready to be inflated. As each rainbow-coloured bulb is gradually filled with hot air, warm yourself with a hot drink (and perhaps a cheeky early-morning slice of cake), and chat with other balloon-bound travellers waiting airside. This trip is popular with all ages, from family groups to intrepid seniors and romantic couples - it’s not uncommon to witness a marriage proposal mid-flight!
When everyone has been briefed on safety, it’s time to fly, and the adrenalin really starts to kick in. The burners roar as hot air is blasted into the canopy, and the warm wind brushes your face. Once you reach the desired altitude, you’ll start to glide serenely through the sunrise skies.
With your pilot guiding the balloon, you’ll float over rural rooftops, looking towards hilltop forts and rugged mountains. On clear days, when the wind is with you, you can get close to the gleaming edifice of the Amber Fort, or the rolling hills surrounding the stately Samode Palace, with plenty of time to take some stunning photos.
Climbing higher, as you drift over the sleepy countryside, your pilot-guide takes you on a visual ‘virtual tour’ of the landscape below, pointing out landmarks and giving you a sense of the area’s history. When distant plains come into view, it’s easy to imagine tigers prowling there. Flying low over villages and farms, early-bird locals may look up and give you a friendly wave.
As you finally descend to a quiet landing spot, savour a long, last look at the spectacular Rajasthan landscape laid out below, before coming back down to earth with a gentle bump.
