Home-stay in the ancient village of Ky Son

Vietnam easily keeps pace with contemporary life and luxury, and tends not to pine for the past - but this may partly be thanks to the many historic traditions that thrive alongside its modern success. A homestay in the centuries-old village of Ky Son offers a wonderful chance to experience these older ways of life first hand. You’ll find yourself making friends with the warmly welcoming villagers, whose livelihoods of agriculture and craftsmanship have remained comparatively steady for millennia.

What to expect in Ky Son...

Officially, the historic village of Ky Son is designated a ‘National Cultural Historical Relic’. On the ground, it is a sensory delight, full of colour, unique sights, and the sound of villagers conversing amongst themselves - and with visitors.

Selective Asia’s Ed advises that ‘it’s great meeting some of the locals around Ky Son village - don’t be shy!’. The locals really do welcome visitors with open arms, and are enthused to showcase their culture, and ways that have been handed down from each generation to the next. You’ll be shown beautiful temples and pagodas, receive lessons in how the land is farmed, and wander around the village market to shop for produce grown in nearby fields.

Along with exploring the village, a number of activities are available - you could head off on a bike ride, learn to cook traditional Vietnamese food, or make for the waters and spend a few hours fishing in perfect rural tranquillity.

Your accommodation here is the very comfortable Moon Garden Homestay, which subtly blends guest-house comforts with an authentic homestay atmosphere, letting you enjoy traditional living with luxury and style.

The former summer home of a wealthy Hanoi family, the Moon Garden’s gorgeous old buildings and original features have been lovingly restored, with its guests treated to many home comforts and a sense of peaceful retreat.

Herbal baths and massages are on offer, and each night a bonfire is lit - perfect for sitting around to chat, and drink in the clear night skies. Everyone speaks highly of the hospitality of the staff, and our clients typically feel they are welcomed in as though they are family.

We say...

'A wonderful chance to experience traditional Vietnamese life in an elegant environment.'
