Phu Chaisai Mountain Resort

Chiang Saen | First Class

Phu Chaisai, which began as a modest, family-run mountain retreat where city-dwellers could reconnect with nature, has blossomed into one of northern Thailand’s most well-known resorts. Long before the term ‘eco-resort’ was commonplace, Phu Chaisai put sustainability and low environmental impact at its heart by using renewable bamboo from the surrounding area as the main building material along with adobe-style steps and walkways. The reduction of electronic devices in the guestrooms is a mindful way to help you ‘switch off’ and find your natural rhythm, and the open walls allow you to wake organically to the light and sounds of the forest.

The original Bamboo Cottages display the beauty and versatility of this material, creating rustic cabins adorned with white voile curtains and soft linens. Warm caramel-coloured bamboo, used in every aspect of construction from the roofs to the furniture, provides a pleasant contrast to the rusty-pink adobe clay of the walls and terraces. The ever-robust bamboo can also be found growing in the established gardens which give welcome shelter and privacy to the cottages. Further up are the Mountain Cottages, which have a rugged, treehouse appeal and stunning views from their open terraces, while the Pool Villas offer private swimming and spacious open-plan living areas.

To complete the wellness experience, indulge yourself with a massage or treatment at the Bamboo Spa or head out for a brisk guided trek through the estate. The authentic warm and welcoming atmosphere continues in the restaurant where you can enjoy a range of healthy dishes prepared with locally-sourced ingredients. Dine al fresco by the picturesque koi pond as the shadows grow long over the mountains.

We Say
A down-to-earth eco-resort in a secluded hillside location.
