Svatma is a hotel offering boutique luxury - think indulgent spa treatments, elegant rooms, great service. Celebrating Tamil culture through its cuisine, décor and art, the colonnaded home of a 19th century British trader has been carefully restored with deep verandas and a leafy garden.
Local artworks provide atmosphere and seven heritage rooms are decorated with antiques and local fabrics - with a further 27 rooms in the more contemporary, adjoining wing. Expect music recitals, Tanjore-style painting classes, Vedic chanting and cookery demonstrations.
