Chennai | Superior
Conveniently located in the heart of Chennai, the Taj Connemara has been a hotel since the 1850s, and today offers stylish accommodation that marries heritage elegance with modern amenities.
The hotel was originally built as the home for a local nawab and was later named after the Governor of Madras, Lord Connemara. It’s had several renovations in its lifetime, the most recent completed in 2018, and photographs of its many incarnations pepper the public spaces.
Guest rooms are bright, spacious and sophisticated, decorated with elegant furniture and soothing pastel palettes. Some rooms have their own private outdoor seating space and all are fitted with air conditioning, though ceiling fans are fitted in a few too, as a nod to the hotel’s past.
There are two restaurants, one offering Anglo-Indian and global favourites, and the other showcasing the distinctive Chettinad cuisine that’s unique to Tamil Nadu. You can also take afternoon tea in the bar and lounge – a great way to pause during a busy day in Chennai – or swing by before dinner for a cocktail. The outdoor pool is fringed by greenery and makes a refreshing oasis in this busy city, while the spa and fitness centre provide a space to work out or wind down between exploring.
Heritage and contemporary comfort combine in this grande dame of the Chennai hotel scene, in a fabulous central location.
