Shinta Mani Wild

Kirirom National Park |

The latest innovative project from renowned architect Bill Bensley, Shinta Mani Wild fuses the exhilaration of camping in the wilderness with luxury reminiscent of Golden Age Hollywood glamour and a commitment to eco-sustainability. Protecting and managing 1.5 km of jungle between the Kirirom and Bokor National Parks in the Cardamom Mountains region, this project exemplifies how eco-tourism can support and extend conservation in remote parts of Cambodia.

Each of the resort’s 16 stilted bungalows extends over the rushing river below as it tumbles over rocks and waterfalls. The interiors are achingly stylish, evoking the feeling of travelling through the country as Jackie Kennedy may have during her famous 1967 visit. Canopied ceilings hang luxuriantly over deep, heavy-framed beds of traditional Khmer dark wood and worked metal. Retro lighting and antique-style furnishings bring character, while gold accents and rich fabrics add a regal touch. The sides of the tents fold away completely, leading directly to the jungle and river below. A subtle safety net provides protection while still allowing guests to experience the full effect of the surroundings. Sit on your private terrace enjoying the fresh air, or even lay back in the blissful warmth of an outdoor bathtub listening to the sounds of the forest.

With a firm commitment to community links and sustainability, the resort has partnered with local wildlife rangers to support their work keeping the area free from poaching and illegal logging. Guests can trek through the jungle on wildlife conservation walks to monitor camera trap footage, forage for herbs with the onsite chef while learning about local culinary traditions, or even take a luxurious boat trip up the river to catch prawns and crabs for a barbeque feast. Enjoy a selection of Khmer-influenced dishes created using locally sourced ingredients and vegetables from the resort farm, kick back with a retro cocktail in the bar, and treat yourself to a natural pampering treatment or two at the spa.

We Say
An exciting and innovative addition to Cambodia’s eco-resort portfolio.
