Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary
Paro | Deluxe
Tucked away in the hills outside Paro, Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary is a place of peace, with a focus on cultural immersion and an all-inclusive approach to well-being.
From the outside, the property is designed to resemble a traditional Bhutanese fortress, with a suitably grand entrance. Having passed through a number of heavy red gates and crossed a wooden bridge, a set of towering golden doors open to reveal the Sanctuary’s Great Room and breath-taking scenic views across the Neyphu Valley. Once inside, the décor is pared-back and contemporary (think pale wood and neutral tones); floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light. Each of the 24 rooms offer valley views towards the historic Eutok Samdrupcholing monastery. Choose from an upper floor room that features a private balcony or a Terrace Room on the lower floor, with a stone-floored outside sitting area.
Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary is more than just a stylish place to stay. Guests are encouraged to disconnect from the stresses of everyday life and focus on their well-being, assisted by a comprehensive wellness programme and the expertise of two in-house traditional medicine doctors. Daily yoga and meditation classes, as well as a variety of traditional Bhutanese treatments are all included in the rates. Private hot-stone baths soothe aching limbs and the 50-foot, heated indoor pool boasts valley views, adding a sense of space and serenity to your swim. The well-being focus extends to the hotel’s farm-to-fork dining approach, but it’s not all about raw food and denial! Yes – desserts and alcohol are available! A changing menu of international and Bhutanese cuisine is prepared using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Meals can be personalised, if needed, on the recommendation of the traditional medicine doctors.
Connecting with Bhutanese culture is another important aspect of the property, and the hotel offers a number of authentic experiences designed to enrich your stay. Interesting writers, singers and historians are regularly invited to the hotel to inspire, and offer an insight into Bhutanese life. The Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary also has a special relationship with the nearby Eutok Samdrupcholing monastery, which houses a monastic school for boys aged between 5 and 25 and, for a truly special experience, it’s possible to participate in mediation with the resident monks.
