The Screen
Kyoto | Deluxe
In complete contrast to Kyoto’s ancient architecture and traditional foundations, The Screen is the city’s first contemporary, design-focused hotel. Its boxy, grey exterior is the antithesis of the nearby Imperial Palace and its historical shrines.
There’s still an element of tradition: guests are greeted on arrival with Matcha tea served by smiling kimono-clad staff, and the attentive hospitality is undoubtedly Japanese. But the décor and style throughout the hotel is sleek and on-trend. No two guest rooms are the same: each has been individually designed by a different artist, with styles ranging from delicate & feminine to ultra-modern & minimalist. Bose stereo systems, iPod docks and espresso machines are a standard feature of all.
The Screen’s signature restaurant also steers away from the conventional, with a menu offering a fusion of Japanese and French cuisine. Other notable facilities are the 5th floor Sky Lounge that boasts views over Kyoto and the stylish SULA NYC Spa.
