Kanazawa Tokyu Hotel
Kanazawa | Superior
A slick, contemporary hotel in a great position right next to Kanazawa Castle Park, the Tokyu mixes a long-standing tradition of Japanese hospitality with a modern aesthetic, and is very well placed for visiting the must-see sights of Kanazawa. Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle are minutes away on foot, and many rooms offer rich views over the city.
Guest rooms are decorated in a subdued purple, sage and gold palette, with bold abstract designs on the carpets, dark polished wooden furniture, and pale satin walls to balance out the darker colours. Bathrooms are somewhat perfunctory - all white, apart from the neutral floor tiles, but the fixtures are contemporary and do their job well.
There are two restaurants, one serving Western classics, the other regional Kaga specialities from a buffet and open kitchen. Both are aesthetically pared down as restaurants go - possibly a little too ‘airport lounge’ for some tastes - but the food is well received and you will be a stone’s throw from dozens of excellent Kanazawa restaurants if you can’t find what you’re looking for in-house.
