Gora Kadan

Hakone | Ryokan

Enjoying an idyllic setting in harmony with the natural surroundings of Hakone National Park, Gora Kadan was formerly the summer residence of the Kaninnomiya Imperial family and it’s easy to see why they chose this picturesque spot.

Located in the village of Gora, a short walk from the popular Hakone Open Air Museum, this charming property is now one of Japan’s most luxurious ryokans and its’ Relais & Chateaux membership confirms this. Its style successfully blends the traditional with modern design elements: the original building (home to the restaurant) sits alongside a stylish new annexe that houses the main accommodation. Tatami-style rooms feature low futon beds, a large wooden bathtub, and floor to ceiling windows with views into a private Japanese garden; some additionally boast an open-air stone bath. There are also a range of suites, some with wrap-around balconies and even a private steam & sauna room.

At a traditional ryokan, you can expect authentic Kaiseki - a multi-course meal that features seasonal delicacies – served in your room each evening; as well as a shared onsen (hot springs bath) and Gora Kadan delivers on both fronts: the cuisine here is renowned and the beautiful indoor and outdoor onsen are fed by mineral-rich, hot spring waters. The spa is an added bonus to assist with pampering and maximum relaxation.

We Say
Soak up the zen-like serenity and beautiful scenery of the Hakone National Park from the open-air onsen.
