Zhiwa Ling Heritage

Paro Valley

Full of colourful wood carving and traditional-style fabrics, the Zhiwa Ling Heritage offers an uplifting homage to the ornate architecture of Bhutan’s historic temples. Within easy reach of Taktshang Goemba (the famous Tiger’s Nest monastery), this hotel makes a tranquil base for exploring Paro’s numerous sacred sites. Spirituality is at the fore in this hotel, which has its own temple and a meditation house boasting views of the Tiger's Nest, offering an immersive sense of Bhutanese Buddhist practice.

The hotel bar, the Mad Monk (affectionately named after the respected 15th century Buddhist teacher, Drukpa Kunley), is a welcoming venue where you can sip a ‘Dragon Warmer’ cocktail by the open fire, or try some locally-made Ara rice wine. Enjoy laid-back, all-day dining in the restaurants or on the terrace, with stunning views of the gardens and valley. To complete your relaxation, take a few quiet moments in the tea house or relax your body and mind with a soothing treatment at the spa.

Why we love it

Discover what to expect from staying at Zhiwa Ling Heritage

Bhutanese heart

This property is a far cry from being a run-of-the-mill hotel - which is exactly why we love it! A truly special way of spending your time in Paro, getting to know the region’s heritage and culture by immersing yourself into the local way of life. Zhiwa Ling Heritage offers a beautiful sense of place and unique insight, being wholly owned and staffed by Bhutanese people - you are able to discover a huge amount about the region’s culture and heritage before even stepping outside the lodge, whilst still having time to relax your mind, body and soul.

Spirituality & spas

The essence of Zhiwa Ling Heritage is Bhutanese culture, which centres on mind, body and soul. They truly provide you with all the tools needed for a tradition-focused stay, visiting the meditation house to centre yourself, becoming inspired by the eye-popping views of the Tiger’s Nest, and paying a visit to the in-house temple. But it is not all about spirituality. Spend time being pampered with a spa treatment or plunge into a hot stone bath to revitalise your body. Once your body is suitably relaxed, head to the bar to unwind your mind with a delightful cocktail or two.

Community Development

Zhiwa Ling Heritage is committed to delivering a tangibly regional experience, and supporting local people and communities. To achieve this, they’ve created a student training programme dedicated to providing professional training in Tourism and Hospitality to local Bhutanese students, offering 120 hours each per week. They learn valuable skills such as making reservations, culinary arts and wine services. In doing so they provide jobs in the community and offer their guests an authentically Bhutanese experience during their stay.
