Summit River Lodge

Stepping into the welcoming grounds of the Summit River Lodge, after a day exploring the beauty and tranquillity of the Kurintar hillsides, is the perfect way to rest and recharge. Natural materials such as rough cut stone, mellow wood and bamboo create calm spaces enhanced by warm light for a cosy, homely feel. Snug sofas on the sheltered terrace offer tempting spots to sit and get lost in the views, or in a good book.

But however cosy the lodge, the call of the hills can’t be resisted for long… There are numerous paths and trails to follow on foot or bike through the surrounding forest and undulating slopes, ideal for gentle wanders, random rambles and even some more seriously-focused trekking. For those keen to take the adventure up a notch, there’s the opportunity of rapid rafting on the nearby Trisuli River, while those with spirituality in mind can take a cable car up to the Manakamana Temple, believed by some to grant wishes.

Sheltered in the Kurintar hills, around 3 hours drive from Kathmandu, the lodge is near to the village of Theywatar and the Trishuli River.

Location, location, location…

The Summit River Lodge is definitely on to a winner with its stunning location. Perched on a hillside overlooking Theywatar and the Trishuli River, with sweeping vistas of mountain peaks and lush valleys, the landscape epitomises why so many people are passionate about Nepal. The gentle slopes allow everyone from beginner hikers to more experienced trekkers to explore the surroundings at their own pace, taking in the rarified mountain air and season-round beauty.

Home away from home

There’s a real skill to creating a genuinely welcoming and homely environment in a hotel, and the Summit River Lodge has nailed it. From the warm, soft lighting making every room feel cosy and welcoming, to the long wooden table in the dining room encouraging a sense of community and a family feel during shared meals, the spaces balance the professionalism and pampering you’d expect in a well-curated hotel, with a calm and relaxing ambiance to make guests feel at ease.

What can you do there?

Begin each day with a quiet moment of two on the terrace, gazing out at the valleys and hillsides beyond as the sun rises higher in the sky. Go rafting on the river, take a cable-car ride up to the nearby temple, and take time to enjoy Nepal’s great outdoors before returning to the welcoming warmth of the lodge for hearty meals and shared stories around the long dining table.

Rhinos & Rhododendrons

Taking an alternative approach to a classic Nepal combination, this journey contrasts the heady and hectic streets of Kathmandu with the open savannah of Chitwan National Park. Slow down to search for tigers and rhinos amid the wilderness, before strapping up your boots for a light trek between two atmospheric lodges in the Himalayan foothills around Pokhara.
