Luang Prabang | Superior
When Luang Prabang was designated a World Heritage Centre by UNESCO, alongside protecting the town’s temples and heritage buildings they also protected the natural ponds (who knew?) And it is around one such UNESCO classified lotus pond that the Maison Dalabua is thoughtfully positioned.
There’s something about the lily-ponds and surrounding tropical gardens that create a sense of tranquillity throughout the property, despite its’ immensely central location a short stroll from the night market, Royal Palace and Mt Phousi.
Besides a serene setting and convenient location Maison Dalabua additionally boasts a highly acclaimed restaurant (hands-down one of the best in LP) that serves traditional Laotian cuisine based on recipes handed down from one generation to the next. The property’s small swimming pool is another welcome feature.
In terms of accommodation, room interiors are airy and light, stylish but not stark. Hand-woven textiles and local art work evoke a sense of place and add a splash of warmth and colour to the contrasting white walls and linen. The Classic rooms are perfectly comfortable but we would recommend paying the small supplement for a room upgrade to benefit from a balcony or terrace with views of the gardens or lotus ponds. For something special and extra privacy, book one of the Overwater Bungalows that sit slightly screened by the reeds on the edge of the ponds, and all feature a spacious terrace.
We SayA charming boutique hotel in a central location.
