Elephant Conservation Centre

Sayaboury | Other

The centre offers a small range of onsite accommodation, including five twin rooms within their main ‘dormitory’ and a handful of double bedded standalone huts located by the lake. Rooms have neither air-conditioning nor fans, however the lake-side setting helps to keep the rooms cool most of the year (bathroom facilities are shared).

Then main dormitory is in fact the former home of the one of Laos’ most revered elephant masters. The building was moved, with the blessing of the master’s family, locals and the authorities; 90km’s from its original setting at the village of Viengko, still in the same Hongsa district. The house has since been renovated using craftsmen from Viengkeo and traditional techniques.

On the lake shores there is a picturesque Sala, the perfect location to relax and enjoy the sunset. There is also an onsite restaurant serving a range of delicious traditional Lao cuisine. Dishes are prepared with fresh produce from the local market and the fruit and vegetables grown in the centre's gardens.
