Nepal visa & entry requirements

Nepal visa information

Is an entry visa required for Nepal?

All foreign nationals (with the exception of Indian passport holders) will require a visa to enter Nepal.

How do I arrange the visa?

To skip the queues and take the stress out of arriving after a long flight, it’s best to obtain an entry visa from the Nepali embassy in your country of residence prior to your trip. You will need to enter Nepal within six months of your visa issue date. UK residents can arrange the visa online, in person or by post, please visit https://uk.nepalembassy.gov.np/visa/ for full details.

A visa can also be arranged on arrival into Nepal at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan Airport and at some land borders. During peak tourist season be prepared to queue at the airport.

What is required to arrange the visa?

We prefer to arrange the visa online or by post in advance of travel as it can easily save 1 hour + at the airport. All details of how to do this from the UK can be found at https://uk.nepalembassy.gov.np/visa/. With the visa already in your passport, on arrival you take the priority line at immigration.

Alternatively, there is still the ‘old school’ option available of filling in a paper application form on arrival and for this you will need to provide one passport-sized photo with a light background.

However you apply, it is essential that your passport is valid for a minimum of six months from your arrival into Nepal and you will need a whole page free for the visa.

What is the cost of the visa?

A multi-entry visa valid for 15 days costs US$25 per person and US$40 per person for 30 days. If applying online you can pay by Visa Debit/Credit, Master Card Debit/Credit, All Maestro cards at the Embassy. If applying by post, a Virtual Payment link will be sent to the applicant’s email once the application is received at the Embassy.

If applying on arrival, the fee is payable in Euros, US Dollars or Pound Sterling cash. Credit cards, Indian and Nepali currency cannot be used to make payment. If you are arriving via a land border, payment is only acceptable in US Dollars cash.
