Japan visa & entry requirements

Japan visa information

Is an entry visa required for Japan?

Citizens of the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States and most European countries do not require a visa to visit Japan for up to 90 days.

Notable exceptions are citizens from Russia, China and the Philippines who have to apply for a visa directly with the Japanese Embassy in their country of residence.

All other nationalities should check with the Japanese Embassy in their country of residence for the most up-to-date information.

What is required to arrange a visa?

In the event of a visa being required, arrangements should be made with the Japanese Embassy in your country of residence in advance of your departure to Japan.

Customs Declaration

When you arrive in Japan you will need to submit a customs declaration. To help you move through the airport as swiftly as possible, we recommend completing this electronically prior to your departure at https://www.vjw.digital.go.jp/. Please note you will first need to create an account. Alternatively, a paper form can be completed at the airport.
