20% discount on our Sri Lanka holidays

How this is possible, and offer conditions

The terrible events of Easter Sunday rocked Sri Lanka and its people to their foundations. Whilst we've been really buoyed to see stability quickly return to the island, progress within its tourism industry has undoubtedly been slow, leading to a huge amount of concern and suffering.

Before the bombings, tourism was Sri Lanka’s 3rd biggest source of income. Now, it is already down to 4th. This significant slowdown across the industry is affecting the entire population, directly or indirectly. Guides, hotel porters, business owners, drivers, cooks, safari rangers, baggage handlers - you name them - are all desperately short of work, and the slow return to growth has already led to numerous business closures, leaving many unemployed.

As a company, we remain fully invested in Sri Lanka and its people, and believe strongly in our duty to help their recovery. Since April, we have financially supported our guides throughout these lean times. However, our focus is very much on creating more business for them, and restoring growth to their industry.

In order to try and accelerate this, we have reached out to our partners, hotels and suppliers across Sri Lanka, and as a collective we have made enough adjustments to allow for a 20% discount, which we can extend to all clients travelling to Sri Lanka before 30th June 2020*.

Where does the discount apply?

The discount is not only valid on any of our Sri Lankan “Favourite Journeys”, which you'll find on our website, but also all tailor-made itineraries created for you by one of our Sri Lanka Specialists.

This discount is an unprecedented step for Selective Asia, as we pride ourselves on making sure our costs and our prices are as competitive as they possibly can be, from the start of any conversation with prospective clients. However, the situation for our guides, partners and friends in Sri Lanka is rapidly becoming untenable.

Although we are confident that visitor numbers will eventually return to where they were prior to the tragedies of Easter Sunday, the short term impact of visitor decline means that many, many people will be forced to leave the industry in order to make ends meet. By offering this sizeable discount in conjunction with suppliers across the island, we hope to encourage a few more people to travel to (and inevitably fall in love with) Sri Lanka.

Outstanding Experiences

Whilst visitor numbers have undoubtedly been lower than usual, we have still had numerous clients travel in Sri Lanka over the past few months, and the feedback from them has been better than ever:

Jose, travelled August 2019

“I want to thank you for your availability and the great help you gave me organising this trip as well as the opportunity to meet (our guide) Priyantha without whom these days wouldn’t have been the same. I have no words to describe my gratitude for all he has done for us. We became friends. What else could I say to describe these days.”

Kirsty, travelled July 2019

“I just wanted to thank you again for helping with our dream holiday to Sri Lanka. We all had the most amazing time and I can honestly say that it was one of the best trips I have ever been on. We fell in love with Sri Lanka and could easily have spent another two weeks continuing to explore. The organisation was seamless and we really felt very well taken care of. Special thanks to our driver Chaminda who was always there on time with a warm welcome”

Nicolette, travelled June 2019

“Our Guide was exceptional, we  loved all the locations and standard of accommodation. We all loved Sri Lanka, and the people we met. Wonderful country & despite the attacks we always felt totally safe”

Is Sri Lanka now safe?

The short answer is a resounding yes! Selective Asia’s founder, Nick, travelled to Sri Lanka in May 2019 to get a clear, first hand understanding of the situation, and to start mapping a recovery plan with our local team. As you can see from the article he wrote on his return, he was pleased to find things on the ground very much ‘business as usual’. There was a slightly increased security presence, but Nick described this as reassuring. The crowds in Galle and Colombo have thinned somewhat (except when the cricket is on!) but those currently travelling to Sri Lanka have got their pick of hotels. The jeep numbers in the national parks are low, and the locals can’t wait to let you know how welcome you are - as Nick put it in his article, this could, perversely, turn out to be the travel opportunity of the decade! Every cloud and all that.
