Traditional Comfort
Kathmandu | First Class
The Traditional Comfort hotel, just outside the busiest area of central Kathmandu, showcases a stylish fusion of Newari craftsmanship and contemporary design.
Although the range of facilities is simple, everything is produced from the best materials to exacting standards. Typical Newari-style brickwork and carved wood defines every room, and many of the details – from the painted tiles in the en-suites to the intricately-carved wooden fixtures – have been painstakingly hand-crafted by artisans from Patan and Bungamati. The guestrooms have a pared-back elegance which allows the detail to shine. The wooden beds, all handmade locally from reclaimed materials, are covered with traditionally-printed textiles in subtle, organic patterns. Terracotta tiles and exposed beams create a homely effect, and many of the rooms are spacious enough to allow extra beds to be added for family groups.
A commitment to promoting the work of local artists continues throughout the hotel, with original paintings lining the corridors and beautifully-worked brass scenes in the lobby. There is a cosy lounge library where you can enjoy a quiet coffee while you read, but the roof-terrace is the hotel’s crowning glory; relax under the classically-carved pagodas, sip your favourite sundowner and look out across the rooftops of Kathmandu towards the Himalayas.
We Say
This stylish boutique delivers all the basics to a high standard, albeit without too many ‘bells and whistles’. The rooftop bar is a particular highlight.Facilities
