Bentota | Superior
A 170-year old heritage house, recently converted into a boutique beach retreat, Rock Villa offers a more personalised and private alternative to the sprawling run-of-the-mill beach hotels that can be found in nearby Bentota.
Formerly the private beach house of Nayantaru Fonseka – an esteemed Sri Lankan interior designer - the hotel, as you would expect oozes style and sophistication. Accommodation comprises of four rooms with a bright, beachy vibe and a more colonial style, self-contained 2 bedroom suite that additionally features a kitchenette and will sleep a family of six. Interior décor and furnishings are elegant yet understated, with attention to detail. The service levels follow the same vibe: meticulous yet unobtrusive, expect genuine smiles and warm Sri Lankan hospitality.
Days can be easily whiled away swinging lazily on a hammock in the frangipani-tree-filled gardens, with a book beside the pool, or step through the palm trees and across the train tracks onto the beach where a small section is reserved for hotel guests. Staff will happily ferry cold drinks to wherever you choose to relax.
Dining arrangements are equally laid-back, with the option to dine pretty much anytime and anywhere within the hotel. Begin your day with eggs benedict on your veranda; break the day with a leisurely poolside lunch and enjoy a three-course dinner in the open-sided dining room. The food is excellent, but if you feel the need to venture out for a meal, there are a handful of local eateries within walking distance and more a short tuk-tuk ride away.
We SayThe service levels at Rock Villa sets this boutique hotel apart from the rest. Nothing is too much trouble.
