Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa
Passekudah | Superior
Maalu Maalu is a boutique eco-friendly resort on Sri Lanka’s east coast, its intimate cluster of luxurious wooden villas inspired by a traditional fishing village and just a few paces from the stunning sands of Passekudah bay.
Accommodation is bright and modern, with white decor and furnishings accented by wooden feature walls and colourful contemporary soft furnishings. The fab stone-lined bathrooms are decorated with singular modern Sri Lankan art, and benefit from rain showers, deep bathtubs, and jacuzzis in the suites.
The charming poolside restaurant and bar uphold the fishing village theme - converted fishing boats, they sit ‘moored’ alongside the beachside infinity pool, which at night is beautifully lit from beneath with dozens of little lights. The restaurant serves a tasty fusion of traditional and modern dishes, made using local seafood and fresh local ingredients.
Ancient ayurvedic treatments can be enjoyed in the spa, which offers herbal massages, oil baths and daily yoga. If you just want to burn off some steam, the gym is well-equipped, and the beach is excellent for watersports. The resort's coral planting project and social projects are also worth mentioning - the hotel employs local villagers, houses a local war widow, and uses proceeds from each room to provide free computer education and computer training to the village children.
We SayThe Panoramic Suites have especially lovely views of the ocean!
