Elephant Stables

Kandy | Superior

A beautifully restored Colonial property, the Elephant Stables was originally home to Kandy’s first elected mayor, and sits perched on the hillside with a superb view over the ancient capital.

Inside, an authentic planter’s style aesthetic blends easily with plush modern comforts; accommodation is characterised by cream walls and polished wooden furniture, brightened by papered feature walls and textiles whose patterns and colours reflect Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage. Bathrooms are entirely modern, and most of the master bedrooms feature four-poster beds.

Guests dine on expertly prepared meals that feature Sri Lankan favourites but also offer Asian and Western specialities, all served in a number of intimate locations around the property, from the traditional Green Dining Room to out on the lawn.

There’s a super pool in the garden, with a sundeck and views over Kandy, and beautiful gardens with mango trees and more of those excellent vistas. A nod to the name - the property used to keep many elephants, and can arrange encounters for interested guests. There is also a stable of fab old Colonial era cars in which to go sightseeing.

Please note that no alcohol is served at this hotel.
