Aliya Resort & Spa

Sigiriya | Superior

With its astonishing view of Sigiriya Rock, this contemporary hotel is superbly placed for exploring what is known as Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle - an area crammed with ancient cities, venerated temples, and a rich spiritual and mythological culture.

Set in smart chalets and more rustic wooden chalets, accommodation is presented in a modern minimal style - especially the rooms and suites, with their white walls, pale beech-coloured floors, big platform beds and just enough colourful soft furnishings and elephant-themed decor to lift the overall feel from austere comfort to perky pad. With an emphasis on up-cycling, the wooden chalets have been constructed from abandoned shipping pallets but are no less comfortable and benefit from modern facilties and shaded terraces. Suites all feature private saunas and plunge pools, while some of the deluxe rooms have extra attic bedrooms that are ideal for kids.

Three restaurants treat guests to an array of Sri Lankan, international and Chinese food; the main restaurant has superb panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, while another features meals that are prepared by cooking in clay pots on clay stoves, and served in a traditional manner.

The superb infinity pool looks out across the paddy fields to Sigiriya, and the resort’s holistic spa has its own ayurvedic doctor, and offers traditional healing treatments as well as daily yoga and meditation.
