Located within the floodplains near the banks of the Kinabatangan River, the Kinabatangan Jungle Camp - or KJC, as it is known - is the ideal base for making excursions along the river and the surrounding nature trails. The husband and wife owners are true wildlife enthusiasts, especially Mr Chong, whose passion and keen eye for the local birdlife has made this a very popular stop off for twitchers.
The accommodation is basic but comfortable, and ranges from single rooms to family cabins. Rooms are fan-cooled, rather than air-conditioned, but you'll be delighted to know that they're all protected by a special fence, to stop the elephants waking you up in the small hours! The restaurant serves good Malay food, with its pleasant open air terrace providing a great spot to enjoy a sun-downer.
