The Abai Jungle Lodge is, rather pleasingly, only accessible by boat. It’s an excellent, well-renowned location for wildlife-spotting - truly quiet & far from any other accommodation, with creatures getting remarkably close to the lodge itself. The 24 rooms are basic but comfortable, with a ceiling fan (there’s no air-con), netted windows, & a private bathroom with a hot shower. Walls & floor are made of polished wood, with a white-painted ceiling to keep things bright & airy. The open-air restaurant hires local people & serves produce harvested nearby, like freshwater prawns & fish, & locally grown vegetables.
500 - 800 metre long wooden walkways extend out from the lodge into the surrounding rainforest, enabling easy exploration at any time & jungle viewing from seated platforms. Silvered Langur, Maroon Langur, Hose Langur, Orangutan & all kinds of birds are spotted here frequently, with guests also photographing a Clouded Leopard & a Sun Bear in recent years.
