Sun Moon Lake | Deluxe
The Lalu is a property redolent in history: it has been the Japanese Crown Prince Hirohito’s official residence in Taiwan and the holiday home where President Chiang Kai-Shek would entertain foreign heads of state. In 2002, following a complete re-design by renowned architect Kerry Hill, this legendary property was reincarnated as a luxury hotel.
Meticulously renovated to take full advantage of its idyllic location at the country’s top tourist destination, Sun Moon Lake, the result is a triumph of Zen-inspired contemporary architecture. You can almost feel the pressures of travel and the buzz of lakeside Yuchi melt away as you enter the resort, taking in the grand views over the magnificent freshwater lake, surrounded by peaceful mountains.
Accommodation is split between two styles, the Lakeview Suite and the Courtyard Pool Villa. Both are ultra spacious and superbly appointed in ultra-modern style, with wood and marble features to the fore. The Lakeview Suites boast uninterrupted views over the lake from a large private balcony; while the two bedroom Courtyard Pool Villas stand in their own Zen-style courtyard and feature a 12 metre long private pool.
While competing hotels may offer a gym, provide entertainment or even karaoke facilities, The Lalu confidently relies on exceptional, unobtrusive service; the quality of its locally sourced food at the Lakeview restaurant, and the transcendent tranquility of the Lalu Spa with its lake and mountain views. If you can tear yourself away, the local attractions of Sun Moon Lake – temples, ports, gardens and piers – are easily accessible.
We SayA peaceful contemporary retreat in an enchanting location.
