Hoya Hot Spring Resort & Spa

Ruisui | First Class

The Hoya Spa is centrally located in Ruisui, a hot spring region of Hualien in eastern Taiwan. It’s not the most glamourous hotel in Taiwan, but with on-site hot spring baths and beautiful mountain landscape all around, it’s a great base for trekking and cycling, as well as relaxing in Ruisui’s natural springwater, which is mineral-rich and highly prized for its skin-healing properties. The Tropic of Cancer passes through nearby, and white-water rafting is another attraction.

Guest rooms are presented in a simple but comfortable manner, with classic light decor, tiled floors, and often with their own hot spring tub. Most rooms are a good size and many have nice views over the surrounding green landscape.

The resort’s main attraction - its springwater bathing pools - are fed from the Ruisui Hot Springs, which are about 48°C, low alkaline and carbonated, with a high iron content. Accommodation is on a bed & breakfast basis, but you can buy seasonal meals in the resort’s restaurant, or hire barbecue equipment for a bit of al fresco dining!

We Say
The springwater of Ruisui is so visibly full of minerals that some visitors assume it’s not clean, but don’t be fooled - it might look muddy, but this is the good stuff.
