Alishan House

Alishan | Superior

Located high in Taiwan’s central mountain range, Alishan House is a well-appointed guesthouse unexpectedly tucked away in the wilds of the beautiful Alishan Forest Recreation Area. This pristine eco reserve boasts no less than four different climatic zones and is renowned for its 2,000 year old cypress trees.

Choose between accommodation in the original ‘Historical House’, which dates back to the 1950’s, or in a more modern building, though all the rooms at Alishan House are stylish and comfortable with an accent on natural wooden interiors. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow in as much mountain light as possible and add to the impression that you are waking up in the midst of a vast exotic forest – which, of course, you are!

There’s plenty to explore in the immediate area: it’s a short stroll to the Alishan Forest Railway for trains to the Sacred Tree, and an array of outstanding beauty spots, aboriginal culture, temples and townships are within easy reach. Or you can use the hotel as a base for trekking and hiking further afield. When you’re not out and about, enjoy a drink in the outdoor cafe set amongst the cherry trees, or relax on the rooftop terrace and take in the clouds rolling into the surrounding valleys, and millions of stars appearing in the sky above, before dining on Chinese specialities in the in-house restaurant.

We Say
Cherry blossom season (March to May) is a popular time of year to visit the Alishan area: advance booking is recommended to guarantee availability.
