A real gem of a property, the beautifully-restored Elephant Stables hotel – originally home to Kandy’s first elected mayor – sits perched on the hillside with wide-reaching views over the ancient capital and surrounding countryside.

The accommodation ranges from bright, cosy rooms in the main building, to the palatial Royal tented suite on the lawn. No alcohol is served at this hotel, but it does offer some of the very best food we’ve tasted in Kandy.

We had had several discussions with Andrew, our agent, before booking the trip and he incorporated all the activities we were interested in plus recommending other activities that he knew we would be interested in. Much of our trip was self guided and SA provide an excellent app to help with this. It was intuitive, easy to use and had the option to be able to contact someone locally if necessary.
