Savoy Hotel

Yangon (Rangoon) | Deluxe

Being located just off Rangoon's very own ‘millionaire’s row’ can have its advantages, namely the great restaurants and shopping (or window shopping) opportunities the neighbourhood has to offer.

The Savoy Hotel (no connection to the Savoy of London fame) deserves such a setting - although it is far from the city’s most expensive hotel, it’s an extremely charming building, with an air of distinction along its corridors.

Formerly a private residence, the property was extended and carefully renovated in the 1990s. The result is a total of 30 rooms and suites, tastefully decorated with wooden fittings and furnished with antiques, all very much in keeping with the building’s Colonial heritage.

There is a small courtyard with swimming pool, overlooked by the 1st floor bar and restaurant, both displaying many original features. The lawns surrounding the house are well kept and provide the perfect home for the hotel’s small flock of resident ducks.

We Say
Enjoy a tasty lunch on Kipling's Terrace, with its wonderful view of the Shwedagon Pagoda, while the ducks saunter about the gardens below.
