RV Kalay Pandaw
Chindwin River | Deluxe
The RV Kalay Pandaw is the smallest of the Pandaw boats (‘Kalay means ‘baby’), boasting just four staterooms and an impressive Owners Suite.
With a design based on the original river cruisers operated by the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company in the 19th century, this beautifully crafted boat was built in 2013 by local craftsmen. Expect the same colonial finish – hand finished in brass and teak.
The cabins don’t feature TV’s or phones: so there’s no distraction from the surrounding scenery, which is visible from all cabins through panoramic windows. And with no mini-bars, you’re encouraged to be sociable! The size of the boat and the shared experience lends itself to a convivial atmosphere, especially during meal times when you’re treated to delicious cuisine.
The RV Kalay Pandaw operates on the Chindwin River passing scenery quite different to the Ayeyarwady River. Incidentally, Pandaw were the first company to operate cruises on this river. The 7 night itinerary travels between Monywa and Homalin – close to the border with India; passing through mountain and forest scenery, remote local villages and riverside pagodas. As the Kalay Pandaw benefits from an ultra-shallow draft, the Chindwin River cruise can operate 9 months of the year and can access more remote areas. Shore excursions are a key part of the experience and there will be at least one per day exploring the landscape, visiting places of interest and local villages.
As with most Pandaw cruises, there are no hidden extras when it comes to price: the cruise includes all meals and drinks (apart from wine & imported spirits), shore excursions and tips for the crew.
