Red Canal

Mandalay | Deluxe

Although they’re only a short taxi or trishaw ride into downtown Mandalay and the night market, most guests would quite rightly question the need to ever leave the Red Canal. Put simply, it’s delightful.

This boutique-style hotel is a welcome breath of fresh air for Mandalay. Along with four enchanting room categories to choose from, the hotel boasts a small pool, a gorgeous underground spa and some of the best dining to be had anywhere in the city - perhaps, we would venture to say, in Myanmar.

Although the rooms are a little on the snug side, each are finished in a contemporary-traditional style, with an excellent range of amenities and a charmingly unusual bathroom. The main difference between the four categories is the outdoor space they either do or don't offer; with uses ranging from balconies and terraces to outdoor rain-showers. Breakfast is served at the Spice Garden bistro or you can opt for the outside terrace - the perfect spot to watch suburban Mandalay come to life

We Say
Although they only win by a whisker, the Chin rooms are our pick of the bunch, with an outdoor veranda leading on to a small pond.
