Yangon (Rangoon) | Standard
Downtown Yangon bustles with street markets, food stalls and an upbeat atmosphere. Hotel G is conveniently located right in the centre of the action, just over a mile to Shwedagon Pagoda and across the road from the Central Railway station. It’s also where the local Yangonites like to hang out, so you’re sure to feel part of the gang in no time!
Rooms are compact and decorated to a high standard, with locally-inspired artwork adorning inky-blue walls. Each room has a unique view - ranging from Yaw Min Gyi’s rusty Colonial rooftops to Yangon Central Railway Station - and double-glazing (a rarity in Yangon!) which ensures a peaceful night’s sleep despite the central location. The ergonomic design continues into the bathrooms, which are modern and clean, and stocked with great quality products.
Tapas-style small plate dining works well with the modern feel of this loft-style hotel, and we were particularly excited to hear about the property’s authentic stone oven, used to cook up tasty pizzas. The restaurant and bar areas merge into each other, creating a relaxed and buzzy atmosphere, and guests can enjoy meals within the trendy wrap-around seating, or sip cocktails on the outside terrace. Wine buffs should take note of the large wine cellar, which houses plenty of vintages from across the globe.
The well-equipped gym is a welcome addition to the mix and is managed by the top fitness brand in the city, and the lobby houses a communal lounge area to relax and read the papers, or catch up on emails.
We SayWhilst the room sizes are smaller than average, the hotel’s overall quality, the location and facilities more than make up for this.
