Imabari Kokusai Hotel
Imabari | Superior
Towering over Imabari and overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, the Imabari Kokusai Hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the city and cycling the 60km Shimanami Kaido route, which connects Honshu, Japan's main island, with Shikoku.
This is a comfortable, well-run city hotel, with great facilities, helpful staff and a seriously dramatic chandelier suspended over the lobby. Both western and Japanese style guest rooms are available. They’re decorated in slightly generic city hotel style – neutral walls, unfussy furniture – but are much larger than typical Japanese hotel rooms. Such is the popularity of the Shimanami Kaido cycling route, the hotel has a policy of allowing guests to store their bikes up in their rooms, too. Obviously, the higher up the tower, the better the views of the Seto Inland Sea, its bridges and islands.
The hotel has restaurants serving Japanese, Chinese and western food, across breakfast, lunch and dinner, on the first floor. Up on the 23rd floor, meanwhile, you can sip a drink in one of the two lounge bars, while soaking up the long views over the islands and the Seto Inland Sea. There’s also a tepanyaki restaurant up here, where you cook your own food on hot plates set into the table.
A heated indoor pool and gym provide options for a work out, and there are two onsen hot spring baths, one inside and one out, and a sauna, for soothing tired muscles after a day of pedalling of sightseeing on foot.
Spacious rooms, helpful staff and a great location.
