Jimbaran - 3 nights

The wide, white sands of Jimbaran beach curve around a four kilometre long bay, with an unbroken coral reef creating a sheltered swimming lagoon just offshore. Once just a sleepy fishing town down the coast from Kuta, Jimbaran has grown to become one of Bali’s chicest towns. Luxury spa resorts contrast with the simple restaurants dotted along the beach, serving fresh seafood with gorgeous views, cold beer and spectacular sunsets on the side. Get sand between your toes where the sea meets the shore, travel to clifftop temples and let your cares drift away. Apart from the excursion to Uluwatu Temple on day 2, your time here is entirely at leisure, with plenty of time to settle into the laid-back Jimbaran vibe, relax on the beach, explore the town’s renowned seafood eateries, and perhaps treat yourself to a few hours at a hotel spa.

Day 1 - Arrive Denpasar, drive to Jimbaran

On arrival in Bali, you'll be met by your private guide, who will accompany you to your hotel in Jimbaran.

Welcome to Selective Asia! This level of personal service (such as private transfers, private tours etc) is what you can expect throughout your trip. A few services (eg boat cruises) will be shared, but we'll always make sure you're aware of these.

Day 2 - Uluwatu Temple & Kecak performance, seafood dinner

Includes:

After a morning at leisure, take a late afternoon drive out to Uluwatu Temple (Pura Luhur Uluwatu), perched dramatically on a steep cliff top. This is one of Bali’s most important temples, believed to protect the island from evil spirits. As the sun sets over the sea, stay to watch a traditional kecak performance, where over 100 men rhythmically sway and chant in a dance depicting a battle from the Ramayana. Return to Jimbaran to grab a seat at one of the dozens of beach stalls for an unforgettable feet-in-the-sand dinner of freshly grilled seafood.

Day 3 - Beach time!

Includes:

Your day will be at leisure to relax on the beach and make the most of the hotel's facilities.

Ubud - 3 nights

Renowned for the thriving artisan community, who sell their work in colourful fringes along the town’s bustling streets, Ubud is full of confidence in its alternative aura. It’s easy to see why generations of travellers have come to tune into Bali’s beauty. Its long history as a centre for healing means there are excellent spa facilities available on every level, offering plenty of options for relaxing body and mind. Connect with the idiosyncratic culture, hike past verdant rice fields wander around ancient temples, before returning to the town centre to sample the world on a plate in the vibrant restaurant scene.

Day 4 - Drive to Ubud

Includes:

Take the morning at leisure, relishing Jimbaran’s gentle pace for a final few hours before transferring to Ubud. Having checked in at your hotel, the remainder of your day in Ubud will be at leisure to relax or explore the sights.

Day 5 - Explore central Bali's rice paddies, lakes & temples

Includes:

Head out to discover the lakes, temples and stunning scenery of the surrounding area. Stop at Bedugul to explore the local market, with its stalls of eye-catching tropical fruits, vegetables, spices and flowers, before continuing on to Ulun Danu, rumoured to be the most photographed temple in Bali. Built on several small islands, the temple appears to ‘float’ on the surface of Bratan Lake, its distinctive tiered roofs mirrored in the waters below, and is one of Bali’s holiest Hindu temples. Head back towards Ubud via the UNESCO listed rice terraces of Jatiluwih, where there’ll be time for a leisurely short trek through the fields, learning about the traditional ‘subak’ style of rice farming. Take a final stop at Pura Taman Ayun, the Royal Temple of Mengwi, surrounded by a moat and boasting multi–roofed meru shrines and intricately carved wooden gates, before returning to Ubud.

Day 6 - At leisure

Sidemen - 2 nights

With the majestic slopes of Mount Agung rising in the distance, the town of Sidemen has witnessed the power of nature at its most awe inspiring, but day-to-day it remains a sleepy rural idyll where customs have stayed the same for generations. In a valley surrounded by terraced hills, a world away from the Bali of glitzy nightlife and luxury beaches, Sidemen shows you the deeper traditions of the island that fewer visitors get to see. Witness temple ceremonies, wander along rice terraces and past spice plantations and feel the rhythms of local agricultural life.

Day 7 - Drive to Sidemen, via temples & mountains

Includes:

Set off towards Mount Batur, enjoying panoramic views along the way. Stop en-route to descend over 300 steps into the river valley at Gunung Kawi’s 11th century temple complex, where imposing shrines, each standing over 8 metres high, have been sculpted into the rock face. Proceed to the equally impressive Hindu temple complex of Tirta Empul, meaning ‘holy water spring’, where Balinese Hindus travel annually for purification in its bathing areas. The cleansing ritual is strictly for devotees, so you won’t be able to participate, but can witness the ritual taking place. Continue north to Kintamani, a volcanic region with the active Mt Batur as its centrepiece. Although not the island's highest volcano, Batur is certainly its' most active, and sits within a high-walled caldera, along with a large crater lake that reflects the spectacular views. After exploring Kintamani return to your car and continue onto Sidemen.

Day 8 - Countryside cycling

Includes:

Saddle up for an hour-long cycling trip with your guide through the picturesque rural landscape around Sidemen. This gentle route takes you through rice terraces, past clove and coffee plantations and nurseries growing chillies. The duration of your ride is flexible, so if you want a longer journey just ask your guide. After the morning’s exertions, the rest of your day will be at leisure.

Lombok - 4 nights

Lombok‘s landscape of beautiful beaches with an imposing volcanic backdrop is exactly what many people seek when they visit Indonesia. Much of the community retains a traditional way of life, and the handful of luxury resorts integrate unobtrusively into the natural, picture-perfect surroundings. The pace of life is slow, allowing space for total relaxation and time to rediscover your rhythm. Snorkel offshore, swim in the shallows and sit back in the sun on the island’s secluded sands. After your day of snorkelling, your remaining time will be at leisure to wander along the shore, gaze out to sea, drink in your gorgeous surroundings and soak up the island’s unique culture.

Day 9 - Boat to Lombok

Includes:

Step aboard a shared boat at Padang Bai jetty for a two hour journey across the strait to Lombok. Watch the island’s mountainous horizon grow closer, and anticipate time spent on its famous golden sands. Upon arrival, transfer to your chosen beach hotel. Time to kick off your shoes and sink your toes into the sand!

Day 10 - Gili Islands snorkelling

Includes:

Grab your snorkelling gear and board a boat from Teluk Kode pier where you will meet your guide and head to Gili Meno, just off the northwest coast. The smallest and least developed of the three northern Gili Islands, Gili Meno boasts unspoilt beaches and some excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities. Visibility is good all year round, allowing you uninterrupted encounters with graceful rays, schools of batfish, and both hawksbill and leatherback turtles. After taking a horse cart ride on the island, continue by boat to Gili Air where there will be time to relax on the beach and swim in clear blue waters. Return to Teluk Kode late afternoon and transfer back to your resort.

Days 11 & 12 - A few days R&R

Includes:

Your days will be at leisure to relax on the beach and make the most of the hotel's facilities.

Day 13 - Depart Lombok

Includes:

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
